Drain cleaning is the service we are called for most, and it is the one most often done badly. Running a cable until water moves is not the same as cleaning a pipe. SpeeDee Drains and Plumbing clears the line, then looks at why it failed, so you are not calling again next quarter.
We are a licensed California plumbing contractor, CSLB #1130435, bonded and insured, based in Fullerton with a second Los Angeles County location, dispatching 24 hours a day.
The Three Tools and When Each Is Right
Cabling (snaking). A rotating cable with the correct head for the pipe size. This is the right first tool for a discrete blockage, a foreign object, and for cutting roots at a joint. It restores flow fast. It does not scour the wall.
Hydro jetting. High-pressure water on a specialized nozzle that strips grease, soap, sludge, and scale back toward bare pipe. This is what ends a repeat cycle on kitchen and commercial lines. It is only appropriate on structurally sound pipe, which is why we camera before we jet. Full comparison in hydro jetting vs drain snaking.
Camera inspection with locating. After the line is open, a camera shows pipe material, wall condition, slope, and any defect, and a surface locator marks its exact depth and position. This is the difference between quoting a repair and guessing at one. See sewer camera inspection explained.
Drains We Clean
- Kitchen sinks and garbage disposal lines, almost always grease in the first horizontal run
- Bathroom sinks, showers and tubs, typically hair bound in soap scum
- Toilets, either an object in the trap or a symptom of a line problem downstream
- Laundry standpipes, lint and detergent buildup, frequently undersized
- Floor, garage, and utility drains
- Main sewer lines, including root intrusion at clay joints
- Commercial and restaurant lines, including grease and storm drains
How to Tell a Fixture Problem From a Main Line Problem
One slow fixture while everything else drains normally is a branch problem. Multiple fixtures slowing together, a toilet gurgling while a tub or washer drains, or wastewater surfacing at the lowest drain in the house means the main line is restricted, and running more water makes it worse. Slow drain vs main line clog walks through the distinction, and signs of a sewer line problem covers what comes next.
When Cleaning Is Not the Answer
If the camera shows a belly holding standing water, an offset or separated joint, a crack, a collapse, or root mass regrowing at the same joint, no cleaning method holds for long. That is a sewer line repair conversation. We would rather have it once than sell you a fourth clearing, and camera footage means you can see the reason instead of taking our word for it.

Common questions
FAQs about Drain Cleaning in Fullerton, CA and Across Orange County
What is the difference between drain cleaning and drain clearing?
Clearing punches a path through a blockage so water moves again. Cleaning removes the buildup from the pipe wall so the blockage does not reform. Cabling clears, hydro jetting cleans, and which one you need depends on what the camera shows.
How long does a drain cleaning take?
Most single-fixture clogs are resolved in under an hour. A main line cabling with camera verification typically runs one to two hours. Hydro jetting a heavily loaded commercial grease line takes longer and is usually scheduled after hours.
Are chemical drain cleaners safe to use first?
We recommend against them. They soften a channel through soft buildup and the residue re-hardens, they corrode older cast iron and ABS, and the caustic standing water makes the eventual mechanical cleaning hazardous for the technician.
Do you clean drains for rental and commercial properties?
Yes, including scheduled maintenance intervals, shared-line diagnostics for multi-unit buildings, and documentation with camera footage suitable for owner files, insurance claims, and HOA records.
